Voyager Academy Middle School News, September 2, 2018

Dear VAMS Families,

Can you believe that we have been in school one month?  It certainly does not seem like it! This year’s opening has been one of the smoothest yet!  This week in 8th grade Core Connections, the students worked on their periodic table. The students in 7th grade math were learning about integers and positive and negative numbers.  During my visit to 5th grade science, the students were discussing the importance of CO2 and O2.  My Spanish visit was in fourth grade and I was amazed at the Spanish vocabulary that has been learned in such a short time.  Finally, in fourth grade math, Ms. Vurnakes was teaching rounding and place value. The students were working four digit numbers to  seven digit numbers. I hope your children are sharing all their knowledge with you.

7th Grade Immunization – 30th calendar days is Sept. 5

Students entering 7th  grade are required to have one dose of Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccine and one dose of meningococcal conjugate vaccine for individuals who have not already received those vaccines.

You have 30 calendar days from the first day of school (Aug. 7) to provide the required up-to-date immunization record for your child. If proof
of vaccination is not provided by the end of the 30 calendar day period, your child will be suspended from school until you provide proof of immunization as required by law.
Student Council Officers
Our Student Council officers are:  President - Kate Flintom, Vice-President – Cara Freiburger, Secretary – Allison Miller, Treasurer – Karli McKenna, Press and Public Relations Officer – Jordan Rogers, Technology Officer – Lauren King, and Service Coordinator – Teagan Holleman.    I’ve talked with them twice and they have lots of ideas for the year.

October 29 is the make-up day for Fall Pictures.

GO PLAY SAVE Books
We have 25 books that have not been paid for or returned.  If you have one of the 25 books, please send the book to school on Tuesday or send payment for the book.  The middle school has done an amazing job selling and/or returning books! Thanks!

Menchie's Frozen Yogurt has agreed to partner with Voyager for this entire school year and now we have Viking Fro-Yo Fridays! Menchie's will donate 20% of every order to Voyager and the PTO.

Each school has been promoting spirit Fridays and visiting Menchie’s is another opportunity for Vikings to fellowship with one another and raise money to help the PTO fund teacher grants and other initiatives. The first Viking Spirit Night sponsored by the PTO is Wednesday, September 5th at  Blaze and Menchie's. Come enjoy fun and fellowship!

CAR LINE, CAR LINE, CAR LINE
A HUGE thank you to all middle school parents----you have been terrific! Please remember that cars with a blue and red sign will be sent to the middle school car line at 3:04 and cars with only a blue sign will be sent to the middle school car line at 3:20.  When we have lots of cars with blue signs arriving before 3:20 it often causes the elementary line to become backed up especially at the intersection where some of the red/blue cars need to enter the line to go to the middle school. Thanks!
