Congratulations goes out to the Lady Viking's Volleyball Team for making it to the State Playoffs!  This season the Lady Vikings were able to defeat Riverside for the first time ever, knock off the Falls Lake (seeded #3) and Roxboro (seeded #10) in the regular season.  This is the first time in 4 years that Voyager has beaten Roxboro! VAHS Bass Assassins Take the Prize on Jordan

Another great day of fishing last weekend on Jordan Lake by four of our Bass Assassin's teams. The team of Kyle Dillon and Brycen Hendriks took 2nd place. We had three other teams placing as well...Tyler McLamb/Austin Haney, Collin Tunstall/Casey Hudson, and Avery Doughty/Cade Dunn took 5th, 6th, and 7th respectively. This week we are off to beautiful Lake Norman for the Riley's Cup Tournament.

The team also held a fundraising bake sale this week which was a huge success. Thanks you to all the bass team parents who provided "goodies" for us to sell. We will be starting to sell Hershey Candy bars for our next fundraiser so be on the lookout for the bright orange boxes.
We had a great time at Fall Festival this year with our first ever pitch-and-cast fundraising stand. We enjoyed showing the children how to use the fishing poles and have some future fishers in the bunch for sure!

Help Needed for Simulation Interview Project at the High School, Tuesday, Nov. 20th
The project will give all of Mr. Baker's Personal Finance students the chance to participate in a job interview. Ideal helpers would be real employers who might actually be interested in hiring a high schooler right now or during the summer, but any adult with interviewing experience (or just the free time to volunteer to help us for the first half of the day) would be very much appreciated! Any adults in the Voyager Family who would be willing and able to help with this Interview Project, please contact Mr. Baker at dbaker@voyageracademy.net.

"Catch" For Relief
Voyager Bass Assassins is partnering with an amazing VAHS alumni, Nicholas Meyer, which has formed a student-led organization out of UNCW to collect donations for hurricane victims in the Wilmington area. We have placed boxes at each school where donations can be placed.
While WeWilmRebuild is going to focus their efforts on the human side of those affected by Florence, VAHS Bass Assassins, being an outdoorsman based organization will focus their efforts on the four legged (and others) victims. All donations will be collected throughout the month of September and the Voyager Bass Assassins will deliver them to Nicholas and his crew for distribution.

We appreciate your help and thoughtfulness in advance. Thank you for your support!!

Voyager Academy Helps "Backpack Buddies" Feed Local Schools
Did you know that North Carolina is the 10th hungriest state in the nation?  Almost 20% of our children face hunger on a regular basis. 18% of our senior citizens struggle with hunger.  The OCS class at Voyager Academy High School volunteers weekly with the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle in their program called “Backpack Buddies”.  Backpack Buddies provides local school children from food-insecure homes with healthy weekend meals during the school year. The children receive a bag on Friday of every week that includes six balanced meals and two healthy snacks.  We are having a Food Drive in order to support the efforts of the Food Bank. The OCS class has boxes around the school for students to donate canned food items.
We will also collect donated food items during Advisory on Mondays for the next 4 weeks.  The Advisory that collects the most food to donate will receive a Pizza Lunch to thank them for donating.  The Food Bank requests canned protein items (canned tuna, Spaghetti O’s, soups, beans, etc), canned vegetables, canned fruits (in light juice), juice boxes and snack items (granola bars, peanut butter crackers, etc).  Please contact Amanda Shaw at ashaw@voyageracademy.net with any questions. Thank you for your help with this worthy cause!
