Voyager Academy Middle School News, April 14, 2019

Dear VAMS Families,

I think I can share the feelings of students and staff and maybe parents!  Spring Break is here and we are extremely excited. Hopefully, you and your family will enjoy some special time together.  We will see you on Tuesday, April 23.

Congratulations – Over the past three weeks each school nominated and voted on a Teacher of the Year and an Outstanding Young Educator.  Once each school selected a TOY and an OYE, three judges observed the TOY from each school and the OYE from each school. After the observations, the judges interviewed the candidates.  The final step in the process was to name one TOY for Voyager Academy and one OYE for Voyager Academy. We are so excited to announce that Voyager’s Teacher of the Year for 2019-2020 is Jody Schulze.  Mrs. Schulze is our 6th grade Social Studies teacher.  Mrs. Schulze is an awesome teacher who is loved and respected by parents, peers, and students.   Our Outstanding Young Educator is Ms. Christina Vurnakes. Ms. Vurnakes teaches fourth grade. When visiting her room, you can’t help but become involved in the class activity.  She loves her students and they love her.

Doug Price – As you know, Mr. Price was named North Carolina Charter School’s Teacher of the Year a few months ago.  Mr. Price, along with eight regional Teachers of the Year competed for the title of North Carolina’s Teacher of the Year.  The nine regional TOYs were invited to a delicious lunch at The Umstead. It was an awesome event. A teacher from Moore County was named North Carolina’s Teacher of the Year.  Congratulations to all of the teachers and especially to Mr. Price as he has represented Voyager and all charter schools well.

Aladdin  – Aladdin was a HUGE success!  The student performers were terrific!  Mrs. Thompson and Ms. Wicker are outstanding directors as is Makayla Harman!!!!  I know if you attended one of the shows, you enjoyed the performance of our students.  We had a packed house all three nights. Parent volunteers, we thank you so much! We could not provide these performances without your help and support.  Thanks!
