By now school is well into the swing of things, and I hope it is going great for your family so far. I am devoting this newsletter’s message to something very important, Voyager’s Capital Campaign and other giving opportunities.
A capital campaign, by definition, is an intense effort on the part of a nonprofit organization to raise significant dollars in a specified period of time. The board has approved our administration’s proposed focus for our capital campaign for this school year, which is to fund school activity buses for use for school field trips, extracurricular activities, and potentially, school transportation needs. As all of you whose kids have had a field trip cancelled or a faraway athletic activity may know, this would be a terrific and much needed resource for our school.
There are additional opportunities to give back to Voyager. You have an option to give to the school’s annual fund, with opportunities to designate gifts for the general fund, academics, arts, and athletics. Although we will continue to allow our Voyager organizations to do fundraising as needed to further their specific goals, making a single yearly donation to the school's annual fund is a perfect option for those who have been requesting an annual all-in, one and done giving option with all funds going directly to the school. In addition, we currently have naming opportunities and other sponsorship for Viking Stadium to support the school's general fund. Connections to corporate sponsors also help our school! Finally, the board is in the early planning stages for a specific fund to support Voyager students and families in need. We will be updating our website to make all of these opportunities available (https://www.voyageracademy.net/support-voyager/), and if you have questions about how to give to Voyager in the meantime, please reach out to Ms. Lucas, jlucas@voyageracademy.net. In short, there are many ways to give back to the school, and we encourage you to choose what is best for you!
We are fortunate at Voyager to have had strong finances that have permitted us to operate an amazing school and invest in our students and community, including through our new Viking Stadium. But the funding we receive to operate the school is very limited. Our ability to help Voyager reach its full potential requires us to dig deeper and imagine something more for the school.
I will be contributing to these efforts, and I hope you will join me. On behalf of the board, thank you for your consideration and support! We are truly grateful to our wonderful Voyager community!
Sincerely,Stephanie Brennan, Voyager Board Chair 2019-2020
