Voyager Academy Elementary School News, Sept. 12, 2020

Kindergarten Curriculum Night:  Thank you for taking the time to attend the Kindergarten Curriculum Night Thursday, Sept. 10.  We hope you found the sessions to be informative and helpful.  The kindergarten team is ready to help all students become lifelong learners!  Welcome to Voyager!

Grandparents and GrandFriends Day:  Grandparents Day is this Sunday, Sept. 13.  VAES was excited to honor grandparents and grandfriends on Sept. 11 with a very special student created video.  If you have not viewed the video, I encourage you to go to your child’s learning platform and watch.  Mrs. Sawyer and our students did an amazing job of telling some very special people how much we love them.

Elective Classes:  Some of our parents have indicated that it is sometimes difficult for students to participate in our LIVE elective classes.  While we feel the LIVE classes are the best option for students, the elective teachers will begin posting one pre-recorded lesson on their learning platform (each week) for your child to view, if they cannot make the live class.  We hope this extra edition is helpful for the Voyager families.

Parent Enrichment Night:  Voyager Academy will be hosting a Parent Enrichment Night on September 17.  We hope you will be able to join in as we share some great information about internet safety.  The event will begin at 6:00 pm.  A link will be sent to all families.

Progress Reports:  The first 2020-2021 Voyager Progress Reports will be issued to all parents on Friday, Sept. 18.

Parent Conferences:  VAES will begin hosting Fall Parent Conferences on September 25 and the week of Sept. 28.  Details will be coming from your child’s teacher.  Can you believe it is time for progress reports?

Remind App:  VAES will use the Remind App to send out quick and important school updates.  In order to utilize this tool, parents will need to sign up. If you do not sign up for Remind, you will not receive the quick texts I send out.  Please follow the directions listed below:

Helpful Tips for Remote Learning: This week’s helpful remote learning tip is related to INDEPENDENCE!  Now that our students have begun to get into the swing of things and learning is solid, we want to encourage parents to allow students to independently complete as much of their work as possible.  It is important for the teacher to begin to see what the student understands and where they may need assistance.  Thank you for helping us create independent learners. You will not regret that decision.  The second tip is to remind parents to have their children READ every single day.  Reading for fun is a wonderful skill to model for students.  We want to challenge all of our families to set some time aside when everyone stops what they are doing and just reads for fun!
