Voyager Academy Elementary School News, Sept. 25, 2020

mClass:  Teachers in grades K-3 have begun completing individual student assessments in the area of reading this past week.  This is such a valuable process as we will then be able to create a unique learning plan for each student.  Thank you for working with us as we take this time to complete the mClass Assessment.  All mClass assessments will be completed by October 9. We will be excited to share your child’s results with you in the near future.

SCIENCE OLYMPIAD: Science Olympiad is a program at Voyager where a team of students compete with partners in different science events against other schools.  We have teams at all levels: elementary, middle & high school. We start preparing for these events in the fall and compete in the spring.  If your student is interested in participating and would like to learn more about this year’s program, please complete this INTEREST FORM.  We’ll be sending out more specifics about the program soon, in addition to scheduling some zoom info sessions. We are also looking for an elementary coach for this year. If you are interested in helping coach the elementary team, or any of our teams, please email Kristin Jantz at scienceolympiad@voyageracademy.net

PARENT CONFERENCES:  VAES began hosting Fall Parent Conferences on September 25 and will continue to host conferences the falling week.  We are thrilled to be able to talk with parents and discuss academic and social goals for your child.  The VAES teachers love your children and are working to give them the best experience possible.  THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONSISTENT SUPPORT.

FIRST GRADE REMOTE LEARNING SHOUT-OUT:  Voyager students and teachers are simply amazing.  We want to highlight one grade level every week to share something the students are accomplishing with remote learning. This week we are highlighting FIRST GRADE.   First graders started their first project and students are excited to start learning about plants and animals. They learned about plant needs this week and many of them got excited about making connections to their kindergarten seed project and sharing their own gardens. We started an experiment to learn to see what plants need and what happens when they don't get water or sunlight as they start to grow. Grass seeds were planted in 3 cups. The first cup got water and sunlight. The second cup got water but was put in a cabinet where it couldn't get light. The third plant got sunlight but no water.

WHAT DO TEACHERS LOVE ABOUT FALL?  We have been asking the teachers to tell us what they LOVE about fall.  Here are some of the responses:

  • College Football!

  • Pumpkin Spice Coffee!

  • Cool Walks at the Eno!

  • Sweater Weather!

  • Fall Break!

  • Making Smores At The Fire Pit!

  • Cool Saturday Mornings!

  • Warm Butter on Cornbread!

What do you love about Fall?  Stop and enjoy each season with your family.

NEW WEDNESDAY SCHEDULE:  Just a reminder, that our new Wednesday schedule will begin this week.  This new schedule will give students a day with less screen time and more flexibility.  This schedule was created to honor the requests given by parents and teachers through the last Voyager Survey.  Thank you for participating in the survey and we are excited that we were able to honor your requests.  Because of the new schedule, we now have a new ELECTIVE ROTATING SCHEDULE.  A copy of that schedule is attached below:

ROTATING ELECTIVE SCHEDULE

FALL BREAK:  Hold on parents, fall break is just around the corner.  We are going to give it all we have for two weeks and then we get to have a break!!!  FALL BREAK is scheduled for October 12-16.
