Dear Voyager Community,
What a fabulous week of learning and fun on campus. Thank you to all the parents and staff for their participation in the Middle School curriculum nights held this week for 4th, 5th, 6th, and 8th grade. It’s wonderful to have parent involvement at all school sponsored events so that our teachers can partner with you to ensure the success of your child. Thank you to the parents and PTSO who organized and sponsored a breakfast for our seniors on Wednesday.
This week Voyager High School students in Ms. Huntington’s Anatomy and Physiology class were creating anatomy periodic tables, while Mr. Maras’s choir students were learning proper breathing techniques while singing to create beautiful melodies. Ms. Harris’s students were learning about professional dress and had a job coach on hand to provide support and guidance. The students reflected on their summer learning adventures and shared how much they enjoyed their community vocational experiences.
The week ended at the elementary school with a special visit from Jonathan Miller, author and illustrator of the children’s book series The Adventures of Sammy the Wonder Dachshund. He shared his most recent book with our students and talked about the importance of reading and writing. The elementary school will also kickoff the Chick Fil A Reading Challenge on Monday, August 29th with a special visit from the Chick Fil A cow. Classes have been excited to start visiting the library again too. The Scholastic Book Fair will be held at the end of September. Additional details will be shared in the near future.
Our Board of Director held their first meeting of the year on Thursday, August 25, 2022. Meetings are held in the Middle School art room each month. The schedule and all resources are posted on the school website under the Board of Directors page. This week the board reviewed the financials for the end of fiscal year 2022 and July financials for the start of the new year. Curriculum purchases, technology purchases, and personnel approvals were also discussed. We reviewed the opening of school activities, enrollment status, facilities projects, and updated demographics of our school community. Academic results from the end of grade testing, end of course testing, and AP results from 2022 were also reviewed and discussed. The board also approved our updated Emergency Action Plan and McKinney Vento Homeless Dispute Resolution policy. The Board also voted to eliminate the Mask Optional COVID-19 policy and the Employee and Volunteer COVID-19 Vaccination policy to align with the most recent guidance from the CDC and NCDHHS.
We are all here to support your child grow, learn, and find their passion. Mark your calendar for Voyager Academy Fall Festival! It is Friday Sept. 16, 5:30-8:00 pm and the rain date is the following day, same time. A Sign-Up Genius will be available soon to obtain parent volunteers. We need help to pull off this event–we had over 2,000 attendees at each festival last school year.
