NC Countdown to College 2022–College App Assistance
Countdown to College (C2C) supports college access every October. C2C activities help high school seniors complete three important college enrollment steps: residency, FAFSA, and applications. Many NC colleges and universities will support C2C by waiving application fees during College Application Week, October 17-21, 2022. Students and parents can participate in a month of live virtual events and How-To videos to support high school seniors in completing three important college enrollment steps: Residency, FAFSA, and applications.

Community in the Classroom: Duke Performance Coach Visits Strength Training Class
Dan Perlmutter, father of Voyager students Mia and Jordan Perlmutter, is the Director of Sports Performance and Head Olympic Sports Performance Coach at Duke University. On September 1st, Coach Perlmutter shared his background as an athlete and a sports performance coach, talked about his training philosophy in working with Duke athletes, and answered student questions in Voyager's Strength Training class. It was a very informative session, and we're very thankful that Coach Perlmutter took the time out of his schedule to educate our students. Follow-up plans include trip to Duke to visit their training facilities.

The Return of the VAHS Bass Assassins (the VAHS Bass Fishing Team). Join Us!
The students are asking, and we are willing to answer the call! We just need some help from the VAHS community to help make this happen this year. We need help finding community members that have boats and are willing to come out and join us on a Saturday or Sunday (just a few a month) at one of the local lakes to take a youth group (two per boat) fishing. We are also looking for some local ponds or community lakes that you may have permission to, or can get the club permission to fish, for us to host mini-club tournaments on weekends. Please contact VAHS Science Teacher Christine Huntington at chuntington@voyageracadmey.net if you can help.

Stay Up To The Minute On How Your VAHS Student Is Doing In Each Class
As you know, VAHS uses the learning management system called, Canvas. Learning management systems are used widely in high schools and colleges/universities around the world. Students use Canvas to access course materials, manage an assignment calendar, submit assignments including homework, quizzes, tests, and projects, communicate with teachers, and collaborate with their peers. Canvas is also a multimedia platform, allowing for many different methods of instruction. All grades are posted on Canvas.
One of the great features of Canvas is one that enables a parent/guardian to stay up to the minute with a student’s progress and participation in a class, as a “Parent Observer.” As a Parent Observer, you can also receive email notifications about grades and assignments.
