Dear Voyager Community,
It’s so nice that the weather is starting to cool off as we welcome the month of September. Thank you to all the families that attended the Elementary Curriculum nights this week to make connections with their child’s teacher and gain an understanding about what their child will be learning throughout the year. Our sports teams had an action packed week with 4 of our 5 teams that played on Monday taking home the win.
The Elementary School and Middle School also kicked off their annual Step it Up Fundraiser to support needs at the school. I’m excited to share that our landscaper will be installing the mulch this weekend so that our playgrounds will be ready for action next week. Thank you for your patience as we finish the two playground projects. Middle School students are already enjoying their recess time with the new basketball courts as shown below in full court game even in the heat.
We are grateful to our families for their ongoing support and donations to fundraisers and our School Foundation which allow us to continue to improve our campus. Another project that has been under development is the installation of awnings at the elementary and middle schools to provide shade and rain protection during car lines and a place for outdoor eating and classes in the shade. The project was delayed due to the supply shortages and vendor availability. We have secured a vendor and will be finalizing the contract this week. The vendor has shared that the supply chain issue will cause delays and that the project will take some time before it is finished. We look forward to another school improvement that is on its way as soon as possible.
We are continuing to remain vigilant about our COVID safety protocols and keeping our school community informed about the community spread rating. Durham County continues to remain in the high category and masks are highly recommended when indoors. We ask that all families and students respect people’s individual choice to mask or not mask. Our school nurse has also started our voluntary COVID surveillance testing program. Please reach out to the school nurse and complete the required paperwork if you wish to have your child tested for COVID as part of this program.
We are all here to support your child grow, learn, and find their passion. Feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher, building administrator, or student support if we can assist your family in any way. Mark your calendar for Voyager Academy Fall Festival! It is Friday Sept. 16, 5:30-8:00 pm and the rain date is the following day, same time. A Sign-Up Genius will be available soon to obtain parent volunteers. We need help to pull off this event–we had over 2,000 attendees at each festival last school year.
