Olivia Merrill is Going to N.C. Regional Art Competition
Olivia Merrill (10th grade) entered the Scholastic Regional Art Competition with her sculpture, "The Brain." The scuplture prompt was, "What's so funny?"
She ranked one of the highest scores in our region and will now move forward to the state competition in Winston-Salem on December 10th. Her sculpture is a replica of a brain created with paper mache, yarn, and found objects. If you peer into the opening of the brain you can catch a glimpse of things that might be so funny. This work will be displayed at our PBL Exhibition Celebration on November 29th. Congratulations Olivia and best wishes on December 10th.

Another Successful Interview Project in Mr. Baker’s Personal Finance Class
Students from Mr. Baker's Personal Finance class were given the chance to interview with real employers for the possibility of real job offers last Thursday, Nov. 17, as part of that class's Interview Project. Students spent time in advance prepping responses to common interview questions, as well as doing practice interviews to get ready. They got dressed up and interviewed with real local employers. Thank you to all those who helped make this project possible!

NC Governor's School
The North Carolina Governor's School is a four-week summer residential program for gifted and talented high school students, integrating academic disciplines, the arts, and unique courses on each of two campuses. Learning focuses on the exploration of the most recent ideas and concepts in each discipline, and it does not involve credit, tests, or grades. Students are selected to attend through a competitive process after being nominated by their public school unit or non-public school. Current Juniors can apply for Academic Discipline Nominations. Sophomores and Juniors may apply in the Art Disciplines.
Please see the NC Governors School Website: HERE
Or contact Jill O'Kane, VAHS Counselor jokane@voyageracademy.net for more information.
A limited number of nominations from VAHS are available. Completed Applications must be submitted to Ms. O'Kane by Friday December 2, 2022 in order to be considered for the VAHS nomination.

Project Exhibition Day
The Voyager community is warmly invited to join us at Project Exhibition Day on Tuesday, Nov. 29, from 2:00pm-3:45pm.
One of the “Gold Standards” of the project based learning process is the creation and exhibition of a public product, as students share their work with the community. Project Exhibition is a proud and strong tradition at Voyager Academy. Come see student projects in action and on full display as we celebrate project based learning at VAHS.

In Search Of Items For Art Class
Hello Parents and Friends! The High School art department is in need of duct tape. It can be the end of a roll you are done with, a new roll, a few rolls...whatever you can donate. We are getting ready to make some art making robots and need some tape.
We could also use some pool noodles...again.... old, used, new, we just need some noodles.
All items can be dropped at the front desk. THANKS!!!!

Let's Go to Spain
The Spanish Honor Society at VAHS is planning a trip to Spain soon after the end of the Spring semester. Foreign travel has been shown to be an extremely valuable experience for high school students. Our trip also has a mechanism that will allow our travelers to earn high school and/or college credit. All VAHS students and their siblings are welcome and encouraged to come along with us. Please check http://www.explorica.com/Bankhead-9316 for some initial information. I'll also be glad to share a PowerPoint that has more information with you if you email me, and you can always address any questions you have to sbankhead@voyageracademy.net. We have started raising money for the trip, and if you're interested in going, you are more than welcome to join us in our money-raising efforts.

Stay Up To The Minute On How Your VAHS Student Is Doing In Each Class
As you know, VAHS uses the learning management system called, Canvas. Learning management systems are used widely in high schools and colleges/universities around the world. Students use Canvas to access course materials, manage an assignment calendar, submit assignments including homework, quizzes, tests, and projects, communicate with teachers, and collaborate with their peers. Canvas is also a multimedia platform, allowing for many different methods of instruction. All grades are posted on Canvas.
One of the great features of Canvas is one that enables a parent/guardian to stay up to the minute with a student’s progress and participation in a class, as a “Parent Observer.” As a Parent Observer, you can also receive email notifications about grades and assignments.
