Voyager Academy’s 2023 Royal Nobility
This week was Spirit Week at VAHS. It was a fun filled week with dress up days from flannel pajamas to barbecue dads to Voyager pride. We were even able to mix in an evacuation with an early dismissal!
The week came to a crescendo with an awesome assembly on Thursday where we were entertained by the VAHS Band and the VAHS Choir. Also announced were Voyager Academy High School’s 2023 Royal Nobility. Voted on by their grade level peers, these students were selected as those who most demonstrate the Voyager Core values. They are Integrity, Empathy, Reflection, Curiosity, and Confidence. However, student body representatives decided to add two more that they thought are important: Vision and Perseverance!
INTEGRITY: being honest and having strong moral principles. A person with integrity behaves ethically and does the right thing, even behind closed doors.
EMPATHY: the ability to sense other people's emotions, coupled with the ability to imagine what someone else might be thinking or feeling.
REFLECTION: taking the time to think about, meditate on, evaluate, and give serious thought to your behaviors, thoughts, attitudes, motivations, and desires.
CURIOSITY: an eager desire to learn and often to learn what does not concern one.
CONFIDENCE: feeling sure of yourself and your abilities — not in an arrogant way, but in a realistic, secure way. Confidence isn't about feeling superior to others. It's a quiet inner knowledge that you're capable.
VISION: the ability to think about or plan the future with imagination or wisdom.
PERSEVERANCE: continued effort to do or achieve something.

Who's a Fast Walker?
In Ms. Fortkort's Physical Science class, students designed and conducted an experiment to determine if they walk at a faster speed than their classmates. We had some fun while using the scientific method and summarized our results using a Claim, Evidence, Reasoning (CER) report. (It turned out that Marcus was much faster than Jesse according to Jarrett Paul's calculations!)

NHS Urban Ministries Drive!!!
Hello Voyager families! NHS' Urban Ministries Drive is still in progress! In this Thursday's NHS meeting, we worked on bagging/ labeling donated materials. It was great to see the bags come together! Thank you to everyone who has contributed thus far! The drive will officially end on February 24th... so there is still plenty of time to make donations. Any donations can be brought directly to Ms. Huntington's room in the High School. The NHS looks forward to packing and delivering these items!

Looking for a part time job?
Do you happen to know of any colleagues who may be looking for some afternoon work and who would be interested in working with a student with special needs? Stay Up To The Minute On How Your VAHS Student Is Doing In Each Class
As you know, VAHS uses the learning management system called, Canvas. Learning management systems are used widely in high schools and colleges/universities around the world. Students use Canvas to access course materials, manage an assignment calendar, submit assignments including homework, quizzes, tests, and projects, communicate with teachers, and collaborate with their peers. Canvas is also a multimedia platform, allowing for many different methods of instruction. All grades are posted on Canvas.
One of the great features of Canvas is one that enables a parent/guardian to stay up to the minute with a student’s progress and participation in a class, as a “Parent Observer.” As a Parent Observer, you can also receive email notifications about grades and assignments.
