Voyager Academy Middle School News, Feb. 24, 2023

Hi Middle School Families,

Congratulations to our Boys’ Basketball Team.  They had a terrific basketball season.  The boys were   Regular Season Champs and they were also Tournament Champions.    We are also proud of our girls who continued to play hard and got better and better!

Middle School Notes:

  • The middle school fall & winter athletic awards ceremony was held on Wednesday, February 22 in the middle school gym from 6:00 – 7:30pm.   Girls’ basketball, Boys’ basketball, Cross Country, Girls tennis, Boys’ Soccer, Girls’ Volleyball, and Cheerleaders were celebrated!  It was a great evening!

  • Spring tryouts for middle school, softball, girls’ soccer, and boys tennis will be starting at the end of February/beginning of March.  Details will be released as we get closer to tryouts.  In the meantime, please make sure your child is registered and has a valid physical at the following link:  https://voyageracademy-ar.rschooltoday.com.

Congratulations to our Middle School Ultimate Frisbee Club for  a fabulous season.  The season ended with a successful showing at the MS Championship Tournament which included 37 teams from across all of NC. One of our teams was almost undefeated in the tournament, with the only loss being a tie game that ended in a tie-breaker, sudden death, final point loss. The coaches and leaders of this team are very proud of these kids. Coach Credle shared, "It is truly a magical sport and it was great to see 35+ of our kids compete, have fun, and learn teamwork through good competition."

Our Rising 9th graders had the opportunity to hear several high school students talk about the high school. After the students shared info with the students, our 8th graders walked over to the high school and toured the high school building.  They had questions and seemed to enjoy the visit.

Our 7th graders are going to the Museum on Feb. 28.  I am sure the students will enjoy their trip.

Spelling Bee - Be on the lookout for information from Mrs. Wright.

Culture and Climate Survey

The culture and climate team members are working together to finalize the surveys and roster files for students, families, and staff. We anticipate sending out surveys by the end of the month and look forward to getting your feedback. It was great to partner with a group of students to get their input on the survey design and for their assistance in creating a video that will be shared in the near future. Thank you to Cayson Clayton, Amaris Iwari, Ryann Cochran, Umar Chaudhry, Jude McDonald, Taylor Cuthriell, Ena Scott-Benson, Thaddeus Robinson, Maura Carden, and Maximus Oliva-Juarez. We appreciate their insights and talents.

Voyager also partners with Communities and Families Rising (formerly Head Start) and has already shared our school brochures and participates in their open house events.

Siblings  - YOU DO NEED to APPLY IF YOU ARE TRYING/WANTING TO GET A SIBLING INTO Voyager.

A huge THANK YOU to all of you who are supporting our National Junior Honor Society by donating food to the Food Drive.  We have a contest going and at the present time it appears our 5th graders might be leading.  The goal is to see which grade level donates the most canned goods, boxes of rice, cereal, etc. The grade level donating the most food during the Food Drive will have an ice cream treat!

Black History Month

We have been excited that our Student Council has been providing Black History Trivia questions!  Our Student Council has been fantastic with the trivia questions.  We have also had lots of students submitting an answer to the trivial question.   We have all learned lots. We also have students who have created a Black History Program to share with other students as it is a celebration and will spotlight songs, dance, and poetry.

Just another reminder!!!!!

PARKING SPACES

Please do not park in one of the numbered parking spaces.  All of the spaces that are numbered are for the staff.  The spaces at the MS are in front of the MS, in front of the soccer field, in front of the Hock House and around the edge of the pond.  The space may be empty when you arrive but remember the spaces are for the staff even if they have not arrived before you have arrived.  Thanks so much for not parking in the numbered spaces. !

Attendance Info

Help,  the attendance committee met today and we will be contacting some of you regarding students not being in school and/or getting to school late.  When your child is sick, please email us so we will know why your student is absent or send a doctor’s note. Several of you received an email or a call regarding your child’s lateness and/or absences. We recognize that many of our students have been sick and we understand why they are not at school.  It is helpful if you send a note regarding attendance or send a doctor’s note if possible.  If we do not hear from you we usually mark it unexcused.

CAR LINE REMINDER:  I want to remind everyone that it is very important to strive to follow all car line procedures so that we keep everyone safe.  If we all would just follow procedures, carline would run even smoother and more quickly.  Recently, we have had an issue with cars not waiting in the car line and trying to get back in the line at the road between the elementary school and the high school.  We have now placed our SRO at this location to help remind everyone of the importance of staying in line and waiting their turn.  We also have parents who are being rude to each other in hopes to move one position.  PLEASE be kind to each other!!!!!

We  need our 6th, 7th and 8th graders to bring their laptop daily to school charged and ready.

MONDAY’S SCHEDULE:  Each and every Monday, Voyager will dismiss students at 1:15 pm.  Since our staff attend meetings every Monday, it is imperative that students are picked up on time.

We are so excited to have Mr. Sweed Dalton back at the Middle School. Mr. Dalton is working with our 8th graders who need some extra support in Math.  Mr. Dalton will certainly have the students working and learning.

Notifying You if Work is Incomplete

This year we are  sending info to you through a Google Doc notifying you that your student is not submitting all work or that your student is not making all passing grades.   Our athletes must pass 4 of 5 subjects in order to stay on the team.     Please continue to check PowerSchool as we are in the third nine weeks.

The Titan Family Portal and LINQ Online Ordering system work together like a checking/ debit card account.  All student lunch accounts must be preloaded with funds for ordering.  Parents then order lunches for students based on the funds availability in their Titan account. Families who have a negative balance on the account will no longer be permitted to order lunch online. Please be sure to send your student(s) to school with lunch if no meal was ordered. If your student's lunch account currently has a negative balance, we please ask that you pay this balance as soon as possible by either form of payment:

Online at  https://family.titank12.com  There is a $2.80 flat fee charged by the bank per deposit online. (Example: $100 deposit + $2.80 fee = $102.80)

A check/ money order made payable to Voyager Academy. Please include your child's name and id# on the memo line. You can also use this pre-printed form.
