UNITY IN COMMUNITY WITH A SONG “BULL CITY ANTHEM”:  The third-grade students are working on a project about making a difference in the community.  Ms. Sawyer reached out to a local musician, Hezter Boi, who wrote the Bull City Anthem!  She was able to get him to come in and talk with the students about making a difference in the community.  Ms. Sawyer taught the students the song and Hezter Boi sang his song with the students. They created a music video.  The students were so excited to meet and sing with this amazing musician who is making a difference in our community.  The energy in the gym was extremely upbeat.  We appreciate Ms. Sawyer creating this experience for our students.

THIRD GRADERS ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE:  On Tuesday, Urban Ministries of Durham picked up 20 bags filled with groceries for UMD's summer food drive that the third-grade students were collecting. Many thanks to the amazing Voyager Academy community for making such a huge difference in the lives of our Durham neighbors by providing food for families while school is out. They are so grateful for the third-grade’s efforts!  If you would like to contribute to this food drive, there is a bin and bags in the office.  Again, thank you, thank you so much we couldn't do this important work without you!

READ TO ACHIEVE CAMP: Read to Achieve Camp is available to qualifying 3rd grade students this summer.  If your child needs to attend this camp, parents will receive a letter from the school.  The dates and times for Read to Achieve Camp are:  June 5-22 from 9:00 to 1:30 (Monday -Thursday).

SPRING FLING UPDATE:  Thank you to every family who helped and/or attended the annual spring fling event.  It was so much fun to see our students and families smiling and laughing.

END OF YEAR MCLASS ASSESSMENTS:  Students in grades K-3 will begin completing their end of the year reading assessment April 18-May 9.  It is time for the students to show us all they have learned this year.

THIRD GRADE FIELD TRIP:  On Wednesday, the third-grade students went on a field trip to visit Duke Gardens and Duke University’s campus.  The students are learning about people and places that make a difference in their community.  Sarah P. Duke Gardens has been serving the Duke and Durham communities for more than 80 years. The idea of a public garden arose in the early 1930s, due to the vision and enthusiasm of Dr. Frederic M. Hanes. The students were on Duke University’s campus for their last day of school and were treated with popcorn and cotton candy.  Some of the students played a few games and created art that was on the campus.  It was a beautiful day to learn outside the classroom and be involved with the community.

FIELD TRIPS:  We have several end of the year field trips coming up.  It is awesome to take learning on the road!
