Voyager Academy Middle School News, Feb. 25, 2018

Dear VAMS Families,

This has been a short week as Monday was a teacher workday.  We had our Spirit Week that brought lots of excitement to the building.  The students enjoyed each of the spirit days as did several staff members. Our Student-Staff Basketball was full of energy and awesome plays.  We appreciate our refs, Coach Simmons and Coach Huff!  Not only did they ref but they also had the opportunity to check out the middle school student team members!

6th Grade Garden Project

Our 6th graders have begun their garden project.  They spent most of this week’s Core Connections classes outside preparing the area.  The students also wrote letters to area businesses asking for donations to help with the project.  The letters were placed in the mail Thursday.  Hopefully, the students will receive lots of helpful responses.

Middle School Spirit Week

Student Council Officers at the middle school have worked hard this week to provide a fun-filled Spirit Week.  Tuesday was Wacky Tacky Day.  Wednesday was Pajama Day.  Thursday was favorite Team Day and Hat Day.  Friday was Viking Pride Day.  We celebrated the week with our Student – Staff Basketball game.  The students had a great time cheering on the students and the staff.

Staff vs Students Basketball Team

What a great way to end Spirit Week!!!!!  The students were pumped as they cheered for either their teachers or the MS basketball team.  I noticed that loyalty to one team didn’t exist as the cheers were for the people making 3 point shots, the highest jumper, the person stealing the ball from another person, the layup, etc.  It didn’t matter if it was staff or student.  The cheerleaders continued to cheer for all.  The Student Council sponsored a Half Court Shot Contest.  We had several close shots but only close---no half court shot was made!  Everyone had a great time this afternoon and it was a great ending to the week!

Lock Down Drill

We had a lock down drill on Tuesday.  Mr. Mitchell, Corporal Henderson, and I walked the building during the drill.  The teachers knew exactly what to do in the event we have a situation that calls for a lockdown.  The halls were empty and the classrooms were extremely quiet.  We will continue with monthly drills – both fire and lockdown.
