Voyager Academy Elementary School News, March 31, 2023

NEWS FROM ELEMENTARY:  We are almost done with the month of March.  We hope you and your family enjoy getting ready for a beautiful spring season. The following announcements will be helpful for you and your family for the week of April 3-6.

HAPPY SPRING:  On behalf of the students and staff at Voyager Academy, we wanted to say welcome to spring.  We hope you and your family have the opportunity to enjoy the warm weather and outdoor activities.

SPRING BREAK IS COMING:  Voyager will be closed for students and staff April 7-17.  Students return to school on April 18th.

COMMUNITY FAIR EVENT:  On April 5th our 3rd grade students will be participating in a community fair.  We have 13 different community partners coming to our campus to share what their organization does and how they seek to support our community.  This should be a great learning experience for our students.

STEM WEEK WAS AMAZING: Thank you to everyone who helped us bring science alive to our students during STEM week.  The students had so much fun identifying the mystery science photos, creating cars from recyclable materials and participating in STEM stations all week long.  Thank you to the parent volunteers and for the supply donations.  Because of YOU, we were able to make a difference for our students.  Ask your student to share their favorite part of STEM week!

RECYCLED CAR WINNER:  Last week, each class had a STEM challenge. In this challenge, students used water or Gatorade bottles to create a car.  The car needed to roll down the ramp and travel the further distance. Each class competed against each other. One car represented from each grade level competed against the other grade levels.  The third-grade team won the challenge. The winners of the car challenge was created by Leo Serrano and Landon Skoff in Ms. Spankie’s classroom. The two boys work together to design the car with big wheels in the front and small wheels in the back. They also put a little sand in it. They tested the car multiple times to see if the car would race down straight and far.  They adjusted the weight and design many times.  Their hard work paid off because the car was a success.  Leo and Landon were proud to represent the third-grade classes and win the challenge.

DIG DEEP INTO READING:  Voyager will be highlighting the importance of reading by hosting a DIG DEEP INTO READING event the week of April 3-6.  Our students will experience the joy of reading as we focus on an ocean/beach reading theme.  We plan to have many great events that week, including a guest author visit and Jessie the therapy dog will visit each class during a special read aloud time.  How can you help?  Read with your child every single day and remind them of the joy of reading.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR:  Field Day will be May 5th.

APRIL FITNESS:  The weather is warming and outdoor activities are in full swing! Enjoy a few minutes of exercise each day to keep you active and ready for all that this spring has to offer. Click the link to download your own April Fitness Calendar.

PARKING LOT:  Parents, I wanted to remind you that numbered parking spaces in the elementary and middle school lot are assigned to staff members.  If you are dropping off a child or an item in the mornings, please use a visitor parking spot or park at the high school so that you do not take a staff parking space.  Thank you for your understanding.

AWNINGS:  We are so excited to announce that our carline awnings are expected to be installed over spring break.  We are hopeful the construction will be finished before we return to school.  IF IT IS NOT COMPLETE, WE WILL NEED TO RE-ADJUST CAR LINE SINCE WE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO UTILIZE PART OF OUR DRIVE.  We will keep you posted!

LOST AND FOUND:  All lost and found items left on April 5th will be donated to a local charity organization.  We have had the students check lost and found.  We encourage parents to check lost and found before April 5th.

HELP US SPREAD THE WORD:  Voyager will be hosting a NEW KINDERGARTEN PARENT MEETING ON APRIL 5 AT 5:30 PM.  If you know of a new Viking that will begin kindergarten in the fall, please remind them of this meeting.  It will take place in the elementary gym.
