Dear
VAMS Families,
This
week the middle school staff was treated to a second luncheon. The food
was delicious (as always)!!!! The staff enjoyed lunch with their team as
many of you provided lunch coverage for the teachers. Thanks to all of
you who spent time cooking, cleaning, serving, and covering classes. By
the way, there are a few crockpots in the workroom!
Conference
Day is Friday, Sept. 29. You should have heard from your child’s teacher
by now regarding the conference schedule. If you have not heard from the
teacher and you want or need to have a conference, please contact the teacher
so you can get on their schedule.
Election
week was full of campaign speeches! We were very proud of all of the
candidates. Our Student Council officers met on Tuesday to begin planning for
the year. The students will participate in many service projects.
On Thursday, they plan to sell snack items during lunch. The money they
collect will be used to purchase gift cards to send to Smith Academy in
Houston, Texas. Our officers are: President - Jacob O'Keefe; VP – Andrew Holland;
Secretary – Stone Parton; Treasurer – Kate Flintom; Service Coordinator –
Allison Miller; Press and Public Relation Officer – Riley Fernandez, and
Technology Officer – Lauren King. The officers and the class
representatives meet Monday to begin their work.
If
you have been keeping up with the weekly newsletter you know Mrs. Paynter has
been in communication with the principal at Smith Academy. They have
several families who lost everything! We are collecting Target, Walmart,
and Amazon gift cards to send to the principal so items can be purchased for
the families. Thanks to those of you who have already donated gift cards.
You still have time---we are collecting through September 29!
Fall Break Basketball
Skills Camp
Voyager Basketball Coach
Mike Huff is offering a 3-day basketball skills camp for boys and girls in
grades 3-8 Monday-Wednesday of fall break. Camp runs
from 9:00-12:00, with early dropoff available for a small extra fee.
If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Coach Huff
at mhuff@voyageracademy.net.
We are in need of umbrellas
for carline. If you have an umbrella you do not need or willing to
purchase an umbrella, we would certainly appreciate your donation. Please
send to Mrs. Johnson’s office. Thanks so much!
8th
Grade---Our 8th graders are learning about physical and chemical
changes, understanding the steps for solving equalities in math, discussing
current events and Legacy in social studies, how to effectively support a claim
about a topic in language arts, and finishing their project and going through a
peer edit in core connections. As I made my rounds today, it was obvious
that 8th graders are being challenged in all curriculum areas.
Their responsibility is to rise to the challenge and put forth their best
effort in their learning process!
