HOW PARENTS CAN BE INVOLVED IN 2018-19 COURSE SELECTION

Freshman and Sophomore students began working on their Course Planners in their Overgrad accounts during Advisory on Monday. They used Overgrad to complete their high school Course Planners.

Parents are encouraged to review their students' 2018-19 course selection progress.

Overgrad is an extremely useful tool for high school, career and and college planning. We hope that all families get involved to make the best educational decisions for our students!

MS BARBER’S ENGLISH CLASS TAKEN TO AN AWARD WINNING PLAY

Ms. Barber and her Junior English classes headed to Greensboro this week to attend a live production of A Raisin in the Sun. The cast was made up of both local and New York actors. It was fun for all of them to see a play they had studied come to life in a black box style theatre. After the show, students dined at local restaurants including a crafted taco joint to a cat cafe! This was a wonderful experience that got the students out into the community in order to grow their interest and study in English.

This opportunity is open to all students (not just High School, and not just Personal Finance students). Any student under 18 will need a parent or guardian on the account with them. VIKING NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY NEWS

NHS is excited to announce the launch of our new website! You can access the website from the VAHS homepage or simply click here and bookmark it for future viewing. We are excited to be working with the VAES again to bring back the “Buddy Program” in which the students can work in the classrooms with students and teachers and build lasting relationships. We are getting ready to work with the Ronald McDonald house here in Durham to serve meals to families in April or May. We recently worked with the Woodward family to coordinate the sending of much needed supplies to those affected by the hurricane in Puerto Rico and we would like to thank everyone who donated.

AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE ABOUT STUDENT HEALTH

As you may or may not be aware, “vaping” and/or "juuling"(the use of E-cigarettes) has become an unhealthy trend among children and young adults, from middle through high school nationwide. As the safety and health of our students is a top priority at VAHS, all students received a presentation on Feb. 13th about the effects of this unhealthy activity, as well as the Voyager Academy consequences.

To see the presentation that the students received this morning, please click here. Parents/guardians are encouraged to reinforce this very important message at home.

As always, thank you so much for your continued support.
