Voyager Academy Middle School News, Feb. 18, 2018

Dear VAMS Families,

8th Grade Parents
Thanks for attending the 8th to 9th grade transition meeting! We had approximately 65 students represented Monday night. You and the students had great questions. Friday the 8th graders toured the high school during their core connection class. The students shared many positives about the high school.

They shared the high school is exciting, big, organized, interesting, student focused and many more! Many of them shared they are excited to move to high school but anxious because they are very comfortable at the middle school!

Winter Sports Awards’ Celebration
Tuesday night was our evening to celebrate winter sports’ team. We had much to celebrate. Our cheerleaders were fantastic this year. They brought much energy to the basketball games. The girls were always enthusiastic as they cheered on the teams. Our wrestling team worked with our high school wrestlers and learned many techniques and moves that will help them if they are on the high school wrestling team. Our girls’ basketball team ended the year as regular season champs and tournament champions. Their skills improved so much throughout the season. Our boys’ basketball team also had a very successful season. They were regular season champs and were also tournament champions. It was fun watching the boys learn many aspects of the game of basketball. I am proud that our students were successful on the court but I am prouder that they exhibited good sportsmanship on and off the court.

Talent Show

What a hit! Thursday night we had 18 fantastic acts participate in our middle school talent show. The acts ranged from singing to dancing to taekwondo to piano playing to karate to dancing to guitar playing to singing. We have some extremely talented students at the middle school. Our Student Council officers, under Mr. E’s leadership, did an outstanding job coordinating tryouts, rehearsals, and the show. The gym was full of excitement!

Teacher Appreciation Week

On behalf of the middle school staff, I say THANK YOU to our parents. You provided the staff with a terrific week of appreciation. We enjoyed breakfast treats, a luncheon, received school supplies, enjoyed snacks, and will enjoy some shopping as we all received gift cards. Each day was lots of fun and appreciated! THANKS TO ALL OF YOU!

Spring Sports

This week was full of interest meetings for our spring sports that include coed golf, tennis, girls’ soccer, boys’ baseball, and girls’ softball. Students are now trying out for the sport of their choice. By next week, we will have our teams and will begin practicing for league play. Best of luck to our spring athletes!

Snow Make-up
Several of you have asked about snow make-up days. We are fortunate to have extra hours built into our calendar so we do not have to make up the days missed. We also have some built in make-up days if we need them. Monday, Feb. 19 is labeled an inclement weather make-up day but we do not need to use as a make-up day. MONDAY is a TEACHER WORKDAY and there is NO SCHOOL for STUDENTS! Enjoy the day!
