Dear VAES Families,
Last week, the staff submitted nominations and then we voted for our VAES 2018 Teacher of the Year (TOY), Outstanding Young Educator of the Year (OYE), and Teacher Assistant of the Year (TAOY). First, I want to recognize that all of the candidates that were nominated to participate in our competition are wonderful educators and people! It was hard to vote for just one person. However, that is what we had to do.
I am pleased to announce our VAES 2018 TOY, OYE, and TAOY winners are: Mrs. Amanda Trump, Exceptional Children’s Teacher, for TOY, Mr. Max Puhala, K/1st Grade Music Teacher, for OYE, and Lori Freiburger, 1st Grade TA, for TAOY. These three educators are truly deserving of this honor!! They are team players and always have a terrific attitude, even when times are difficult. Amanda, Max, and Lori consistently focus on what is in the best interest of ALL our children!
Congratulations, Amanda, Max, and Lori!!
We are hosting an Usborne Books eFair for Voyager Academy Elementary.
Usborne has some fabulous book choices for under $5.00! This could be a great way for parents to purchase some excellent books for summer reading! Also, consider buying a book for your child’s teacher to add to their classroom libraries. If we sell over $250 in books, we will get half in free books for project work and classrooms!! Follow this link to order your books online and support Voyager Academy Elementary!! (Click here for the flyer)

On Tuesday, we had a very special treat! The high school show choir and band invited the elementary students to a performance in the high school gym. It was fabulous!! Some of our elementary students were able to see their high school siblings too! We want to extend the very best to our high school music students, Jenny Hobgood, and Max Puhala as they travel to Orlando for the high school show choir competition!! We know you will make Voyager very proud!!!
Save the date for our VAES Science Night on Tuesday, March 27 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the elementary school. There will be fun activities and we are thrilled that Duke Chemistry Outreach will return with their programs and expertise!! All ages are welcome to attend; however, students must be accompanied by an adult.
Also, at Science Night, our Science Olympiad students will have some demonstrations and a friendly competition. If you are willing to volunteer to assist with this, please contact Erik Benson at: scienceolympiadteama@voyageracademy.net.
Don’t forget that if you want to write a kind message to our featured staff, please come and take a note card from the bulletin board.
