VOYAGER ACADEMY ATHLETICS

Middle School Athletics

Congratulations to our middle school student-athletes of the month, Liam Daly and Caroline Hoyle!  Liam and Caroline are both 6th graders and are members of our middle school baseball and softball teams.  Both Liam and Caroline are not only hard-workers and positive influences on the field but in the classroom as well.  Congratulations to you both!

The baseball team (4-7) lost in the semi-finals of the TNAC tournament on Wednesday to #1 seed Oxford Prep., 6-2 at The Granville Athletic Park.  The Vikings, despite seeing their season end earlier than they would have liked, had a great year and will continue to build their program.  Congratulations on a great season, guys.

The girls’ soccer team (7-5) team dropped their last regular season match, 3-0, at Eno River this past Tuesday.  The Vikings finished the regular season tied with Roxboro Community for 3rd place.  However, Voyager lost the tiebreaker and ended up as the #4 seed for the upcoming TNAC tournament.  Next week Voyager will be the host of the TNAC middle school soccer championships.  #4 Voyager will be the home team against #5 Vance Charter in a 6pm kickoff.  In the first game #3 Roxboro Community will take on #6 Oxford Prep at 4:30.  Good luck in the tournament!

The softball team (2-7) saw their season come to an end with a tough 11-10 loss to conference rival Excelsior Academy in the 1st round of the TNAC tournament.  Despite only having two wins the softball team had an incredible season and made huge strides from the previous year.  The Vikings improved in every aspect of the game and saw their offensive production at the plate increase!

High School Athletics

Congratulations to our high school student-athletes of the month, Senior Allison Miller and First Year Carlos Green!  Allison is currently a member of our women’s soccer team and has 4 goals on the season as a primary defender.  Allison is one of the hardest working student-athletes on the field and in the classroom.  Allison and her teammates will find out this afternoon where their team will be seeded in the NCHSAA state playoffs.  Carlos is currently a member of our men’s track & field team, where the team has seen on almost a weekly basis, Carlos breaking and setting school records!  Carlos will be competing tomorrow in multiple events in an attempt to bring home a Regional Championship.  Outside of the track, Carlos is a dedicated student who is always willing to help those around him.  Congratulations again to you both!

The baseball team (18-5, 9-1) won their 1st round NCHSAA state playoff matchup on Monday against Rocky Mount Prep. via forfeit.  The #3 seeded Vikings will host fellow TNAC opponent, Oxford Prep. tonight at 7pm at the Old Durham Ballpark

The men’s tennis team (5-10, 4-0) advanced to the third round of team duals and will travel to #1 Riverside-Martin on Wednesday, May 17th.  This morning three members of the team are also competing for state titles at the Cary Tennis Park.  Sophomore Tyler Hinshaw will compete for an individual state title while Sophomore Will Baker & Junior Zach Hanspal will compete for the duos state title.  We will keep everyone updated on our social media accounts on how the guys are doing today!

The women’s soccer team (10-6-1, 10-2) dropped their final game of the regular season, 4-2, to Eno River Academy.  The Vikings will now wait until Friday afternoon to see where they will be seeded for the NCHSAA state playoffs.  First round games will be held on Monday, May 15th at the highest seed.  Although we do not know where we will be seeded we do know that we will be hosting for the first round.  We will update everyone on our social media accounts when we learn more information.

The softball team (4-8, 0-6) has concluded their season and will not be participating in the NCHSAA state tournament.  Special shutout to our two amazing softball seniors, Autum Suka and Emma Heidecker.  Heidecker led the Vikings on the mound, striking out 38 batters over the course of the season, her best of her high school career.  Suka had one of the team’s highest batting average this season, batting .476% and was top 3 in runs scored, hits, and doubles.

The men’s and women’s track team head to Pender High School tomorrow morning for the NCHSAA Regional Championships.  Every single member of both the men’s and women’s track team qualified for the Regional competition.  We will post updates on how the teams are doing throughout the day on our social media accounts
