From the Voyager Academy Managing Director, Sept. 25, 2020

Dear Voyager Community,

The weather has certainly been unpredictable this week.  I am hoping for a sunny weekend and spending some time outside with my family. The teachers and administrative team at Voyager continue to impress me with their dedication and commitment to our students. They continue to create innovative lessons and challenge all students to reach their potential and expand their critical thinking skills. Our teachers are also committed to ensuring that our students grow and learn and have balance in their lives. Your children are part of our Voyager family and we’re all in this educational journey together.

mClass:  Teachers in grades K-3 have begun completing individual student assessments in the area of reading this past week.  This is such a valuable process as we will then be able to create a unique learning plan for each student.  Thank you for working with us as we take this time to complete the mClass Assessment.  All mClass assessments will be completed by October 9. We will be excited to share your child’s results with you in the near future.

Voyager’s Science Olympiad Program

Science Olympiad is a program at Voyager where a team of students compete with partners in different science events against other schools.  We have teams at all levels: elementary, middle & high school. We start preparing for these events in the fall and compete in the spring.  If your student is interested in participating and would like to learn more about this year’s program, please complete this INTEREST FORM.  We’ll be sending out more specifics about the program soon, in addition to scheduling some zoom info sessions. We are also looking for an elementary coach for this year. If you are interested in helping coach the elementary team, or any of our teams, please email Kristin Jantz at scienceolympiad@voyageracademy.net

Dear Voyager Community,

It’s been another incredible week at Voyager with our students, staff, and parents learning and growing together.  We are so thankful for our school counseling team that has planned our student and parent enrichment programs to support our school community.  Last evening, Voyager parent and IT expert, Shelly Epps, shared an informative and insightful presentation on Internet Safety.  Thank you, Shelly for sharing your expertise with our community.  The Internet Safety Presentation slides from the presentation are linked if you were not able to attend the zoom session.

mClass:  Teachers in grades K-3 will begin conducting the mClass reading assessment with each individual student during the week of Sept. 21.  The teachers will schedule a set time to meet with each student to conduct this assessment.  This data will help us determine what reading skills our students have mastered and what reading skills we need to provide more assistance.  All mClass assessments will be completed by October 9.

Hello Middle School Parents,

It’s been another great week at Voyager Middle School. On Tuesday, we had a Virtual Assembly that was lots of fun.  It was great to see so many smiling faces.  I think the highlight for most of the students was following Mrs. Liller’s  and Mr. Blackston’s lead   in the Casper cha cha slide.  Have your students shared the Casper cha cha slide with you?

Dear Voyager Community,

Thank you to the many parents, guardians, and students that have completed our Remote Learning Survey to provide input into our process of reflection so that we can refine our remote learning environment and schedule. The results from the surveys are linked for your reference-- Parent Survey Results, Student Survey Results. Voyager staff are also providing input on a similar remote learning survey. Our goal is to ensure our students strive for academic excellence while balancing social, and emotional well-being. The leadership team has already met and discussed the staff and parent results and are planning staff input sessions. Please be assured that we will be analyzing all data from the parent, student, and staff surveys with our staff and leadership team next week. After a full evaluation, we will be making recommendations for schedule refinements and announcing any updates to our community as soon as possible. It is important to remember that the school recommendation will balance the needs for all students at each grade level.

Hello Middle School Parents,

Short weeks are always extremely busy!  This week has certainly been a busy one even though it was a four day week.  Our teachers continue to provide quality lessons  Our science teachers are sharing experiments that students are able to do at home. Mrs. Liller and Mr. Blackston have created videos to provide a variety of activities for physical education.  Many of our students have been completing diagnostic assessments. Assessments are helpful in providing teachers information indicating what students already know and what the teacher needs to review.

September 4, 2020

Dear Voyager Community,

Thank you for all the responses to our parent and student remote instruction survey.  If you have not yet completed the survey, please remember to submit your responses by Monday, 9/7/20 so that your input can be included in our planning for the future. The surveys are linked below. Many families have also completed the 2020 -2021 Year-Long Remote Learning Option Enrollment.  Please complete the enrollment form linked below for each child if you wish to continue with remote instruction for the entire 2020 -2021 school year.  This information is critical for us to plan staffing for the remainder of the year.  Please understand that once you have requested to have remote learning instruction for the entire 2020 - 2021 school year you will not be able to switch your child back to in-person instruction during this school year.

Welcome Back To School Assembly:  The K-3 students have a GREAT time attending their first Virtual Assembly on Sept. 3.  The energy was high!  The smiles were large and the laughter was plentiful!  Thank you to every parent who helped their child log in for the fun. We had 400 students attend the Welcome Back To School Assembly on Sept. 3.  Remember, Mr. Manning wrote the morning rap and he has encouraged the students to write a rap about remote learning.  Next, record it and send it to your child’s teacher.  Let your creativity flow!  Be on the lookout for more virtual assemblies.

Hello Middle School Parents,

I am sure each of you are extremely busy but I  hope you were able to participate in the survey that was part of Mrs. Schollmeyer’s newsletter last weekend.  There was a survey for parents regarding screen time, schedules and a 4 day week with a day for students to catch up on work or for teachers to work with a student or small group.  If you have not completed the survey, please take time to voice your opinion.
